Speed, Agility, Quickness & Strength (SAQS)

Speed, Agility, & Quickness  and Strength training is needed in every aspect of sports. A great program can separate a great player quickly from a good player.
You might ask, “Why do we need Speed, Quickness, And Agility (SAQS) Training?”  Speed and agility workouts help to complement and improve the performance of all sports as well as everyday activities. The exercises and drills implemented during training help improve acceleration, deceleration, foot speed, quickness, and change of direction. SAQS drills help children develop their acceleration, deceleration, reaction time, coordination, quickness, and focus. These are all skills necessary for athletic performance in all sports and physical activities and are a fabulous way to separate athletes as they progress in athleticism
The goal of SAQS training is to help you become a better runner by improving your neuromuscular efficiency (NME) and your ability to produce force quickly. NME is the ability of your nervous system to fire muscle fibers quickly and efficiently. The better your NME, the better your running economy (the amount of energy you use to run at a given pace). Improving your NME will make you a more efficient runner and help you run faster with less effort. SAQS training is based on the principle of “specificity” which means that you need to train specifically for the demands of your sport.

Omega Fitness Institute focuses on the specific developmental needs of every given athlete in our program. It is crucial to enhancing their overall athletic capabilities. One of the major components for improving this is the development of speed, agility, and quickness (SAQ).
Speed – The rate of performance of an activity, such as a movement or action. More simply, how fast can you do something. In athletics, if you can do something faster than your opponent, you will be successful.
Agility – The ability to change direction or position of the body due to an outside stimulus without losing speed. Athletes need to be able to effectively respond to visual, auditory, and tactile cues in order to manipulate the body or an object. Adjusting the direction or position of the body with minimal to no reduction in overall speed of execution will provide an advantage to the athlete.
Quickness – The ability to execute a movement skill in a brief amount of time. Athletes who are better able to perform skills in a shorter amount of time will be provided an advantage over their counterparts during competition. Developing SAQ is an imperative piece of the overall goals associated with performance enhancement. Therefore, it is important for the parents and athletes to fully understand how to obtain appropriate SAQ adaptations for the athlete.
